Felt from January 1st Until January 12th
I love to look at the night sky and imagine the stars as words and lines of a poem. The author knows the intent of their poem, but that doesn't mean the interpretations of others are any less valuable. Some could even uncover truths the writers themselves didn’t consider.
But what in this world isn’t a piece of art, like a poem? Human lives tell stories of unique experiences, nature effortlessly creates sculptures and paintings from the environment, and each building in a random city tells a unique story. Everything is art, and each individual will interpret each piece differently; one human spirit can see what is invisible to another.
Why am I writing about art and its interpretation? In the sky, I see how we all live as if writing an epic poem. Each habit becomes a romantic adventure, each interaction a destined meeting, and each undertaking a fight for ideals. We all use alliteration, assonance, allusion, and allegory. Personification, repetition, and juxtaposition. We all express our emotions more and care to make a good case for our value in front of the ultimate judge—our intellect.
Mercury stands for analysis and intellect, Neptune for illusions and art, and the tense square between these planets can only be resolved through situations that force them into direct conflict.
The Rhymes of Life
One single song will make people feel a thousand different emotions. One human being will evoke a thousand different perspectives. Someone will adore us, while someone else avoids us, despite our feelings and desires. While Mercury squares Neptune in the sky, we must face the fact that we can't control how others see us. We are an ever-changing work of art (Neptune) that tells (Mercury) incredible stories while listening to those of others. Right now, we should all isolate (Neptune) our voices (Mercury) and listen carefully to our own story. We must not allow our story to get lost among thousands of others, losing its authenticity.
They say comparison is the thief of joy, but that’s not the whole truth; comparison also hinders growth. There’s the time we spend lamenting our identity as a result of comparison, but there’s also the risk of taking a path not meant for us because we view someone else’s destiny as more valuable. While we must learn (Mercury) from the dreams (Neptune) and experiences of others, we should never destroy our dreams just to follow theirs.

Hiding the Truth
Mercury and Neptune most often clash in those moments when our logical mind urges us to speak, but our intuition tells us to hold back. While their square in the sky affects our lives, truth doesn’t come to light so easily. Quite the opposite: when we want to say something, it will often come out a bit differently than intended.
The news, or the stories we exchange with friends or strangers, are more open to interpretation than ever. The difficulties don’t stop there. Distorted (Neptune) speech (Mercury) might be a problem on its own, but because of Neptune, we’re all also more gullible.
This is the right time for art, joy, and imagination—and a bad time for studies, making deals, or planning. Write (Mercury) stories (Neptune), enter imaginary worlds (Neptune) with your friends, and discover (Mercury) art (Neptune) and spirituality (Neptune). If you’re interested in someone’s opinion, ask them after January 12th. Similarly, if you want to know someone’s true feelings, delay delicate talks until after January 12th.
I have to mention Grigory Potemkin, who has Mercury square Neptune in his natal chart, an aspect that undoubtedly made him famous. Have you heard of Potemkin villages? Grigory was a close associate of Russian Empress Catherine the Great. In 1787, he was tasked with developing the recently annexed Crimea, but he didn’t do a great job. When Catherine came to visit and inspect her new territory, he allegedly constructed elaborate fake villages along her route to impress her and her entourage. These "villages" were mere facades, with painted fronts and actors posing as happy peasants, designed to showcase prosperity and success. This story is the perfect allegory for Mercury square Neptune.
The Voice of the Generation
The list of people with Mercury square Neptune in their charts is full of individuals admired worldwide. This isn’t surprising; Neptune creates glamour and alluring stories, while Mercury’s talents spread those messages far and wide.
I’ll separate these individuals into two camps: poets and politicians. Poets take the beauty of the written word from Mercury and the imagination and inspiration from Neptune. Politicians take the efficiency of spoken word from Mercury and a sense of grandeur from Neptune. Sometimes the line between poets and politicians isn’t so clear because some individuals display traits of both.
I’m still in awe of the camp of poets. Some of my favorite artists are here: Jim Morrison, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Bob Dylan, John Frusciante, Bon Jovi, Travis Scott, Avril Lavigne, Nick Drake, Phil Collins, Cyndi Lauper, Wiz Khalifa, Robbie Williams, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Stromae, Rosalia, Axl Rose, Elliott Smith, Cat Stevens, Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries), James Blunt, Avicii, Miles Davis, Sabrina Carpenter, Mika, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park). Neptune rules music, so it’s no surprise that most of these people are musicians or songwriters. However, a few deal with other Neptunian areas like mythology, gender identity, or painting. Examples include Chuck Palahniuk (writer of Fight Club), Joseph Campbell (famous mythologist), Gustav Klimt, Lord Byron, William Faulkner, and Virginia Woolf.
Lesson: Contribute to the positive manifestation of the spirit of the time by unapologetically expressing who you are.
In the camp of politicians, we also find many notable people: Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Kim Il Sung, Muammar al-Gaddafi, Abraham Lincoln, Otto Von Bismarck, Simon Bolivar, and Tiberius. These individuals might not be the greatest leaders, but they are masters of storytelling, capable of uniting people behind a cause—even if it’s fabricated.
Lesson: Use doubt in the right places to motivate yourself and others to action.
One thing defines these individuals: they all want fame. They want their stories told, their voices heard, and to live lives that transcend death. Neptune, as the planet of spirituality, teaches us to rise above daily struggles. But some people take this further—a desire to transcend reality can become a desire to transcend life itself. This is why many people with this aspect seek fame.
