Outer Effect:
- Opals can pick up on thoughts and feelings around you as well, easing communication and making your home or workplace calmer.
- Since ancient times, it is believed opals help you make contact with astral, invisible realms, thus bringing you closer to cosmic consciousness.
Chakras & Opal
Everything in the Universe vibrates, but because of crystals’ unique structure, that vibration is stabilized and amplified.
Opal works the best with the Throat Chakra - the chakra of Communication & Truth.
Opal amplifies emotional states and inspires us to share what is in our hearts. It also enhances memory so that our communication can be more efficient. You can wear opal whenever you have a difficult conversation ahead of you, or when you are in search of the truth. Place it on your throat while you are lying down and let the opal bring all the emotions to the surface. Just be an observer of yourself, it will tell you the secrets you need to know.
Astrology & Opal
Traditionally, opals are the October birthstone, however, the list of birthstones is susceptible to change, usually motivated by market trends. Opals can be used by any Zodiac sign, although some might get more from them based on the compatibility of energies.
Opals can contain up to 20% water, which means the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) connect them with them more easily. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) are also more sensitive to the amplifying energy of the opals. Fire is curious and dynamic, indulging in all kinds of experiences that match with opal’s broad spectrum of colors.

Stories & Myths
Ancient India, China, Greece, Rome
These societies regarded opal as the most precious of stones. They believed it had magical properties because it could contain all colors.
Opal got its name from the SANSKRIT word ‘upala’ which means ‘precious stone’. ROMANS took the name and latinized it into ‘opalus’. All cultures saw opal as an incredibly lucky stone, but ROMANS and CHINESE ascribed to it an additional property - hope. This is likely because hope has the ability to transform any negative emotion into a positive one, just like opals do. In the ARABIC world, they said opals fell from the heavens in flashes of lightning. Ancient GREEKS said opals contain the tears shed by Zeus after his victory over the Titans which again ties with hope, as that victory marked the prevail of humanity over tyranny.
Care for Opal
Out of all commonly worn gemstones, opals are the most delicate. They can contain up to 20% water which means they are sensitive to dehydration. You should keep them away from exposure to sudden changes in temperature, otherwise they will develop cracks and lose their shine. It is only appropriate for such beauty to require a few more extra steps for care.
If you have any jewelry with opals, you should keep them separate from other pieces so the delicate opal doesn’t get scratched. You could also wrap them in a damp cloth, so the water inside doesn’t evaporate. If you have pure gemstones, either rough or polished, you can even keep them inside a jar of water.
Keeping your stones cleansed and charged is very important if you want to get the most out of their healing nature. To recharge opals, simply run them through water, or leave them in the moonlight overnight, just make sure it isn’t too cold. You can also rub them together in the palms of your hands while envisioning what kind of energy you would like to charge them with.
